In Loving Memory

JJ MAYBANK
July 31, 2003 — April 17, 2024
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of JJ Maybank, who left this world on April 17, 2024. Born on July 31, 2003, in the sunlit shores of Outer Banks, North Carolina, JJ was a vibrant soul who lived life on his own terms, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
JJ was the beloved son of Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff. Despite a tumultuous relationship with his father, JJ's spirit remained unbroken, characterized by a fearless and rebellious nature that defined him. A proud Pogue, JJ embraced the rugged, coastal lifestyle of the Outer Banks, finding joy and camaraderie in the adrenaline-fueled adventures that he shared with his closest friends.
A former student of Kildare County High School, JJ was known for his loyalty and courage. His friends often described him as the "loose cannon" of their group, a testament to his daring and spirited approach to life. Among those who cherished him most were John B. Routledge, his unwavering best friend since the third grade, and Pope Heyward, a fellow Pogue who joined him in countless escapades. Sarah Cameron, a steadfast ally and member of their treasure-hunting crew, also held a special place in JJ's heart.
In recent times, JJ found love and companionship with Kiara Carrera, a close friend who became his girlfriend. Together, they shared a bond that transcended friendship, offering each other support and love through life's challenges.
JJ's life, though tragically cut short, was filled with moments of joy, adventure, and deep connection. His fearless spirit and fierce loyalty will forever be remembered by those who knew him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the vibrant life he led and the love he shared with those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in JJ’s memory, as a tribute to his generous and adventurous spirit.
JJ will be dearly missed, but his legacy of courage, friendship, and love will endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
