Jimmy Ray Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmy Ray Johnson, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on July 16, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on February 8, 1947, in Taylor, Texas, Jimmy was the cherished son of Vinson Chester and Annabelle Johnson.
A proud graduate of McCallum High School, class of 1965, he pursued higher education at The University of Texas, graduating in 1970. Jimmy found his calling in education, where he dedicated his career to coaching basketball, football, and track at Johnston High School. He also shared his passion for physical education with young minds as a PE Coach at Becker Elementary. His influence on students and athletes was profound, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and integrity.
Beyond his professional achievement’s, he is lovingly remembered by his children, Scott and Melanie Johnson, and Jimmy and Jamie Johnson. His legacy continues through his four adored grandchildren, Lincoln, Nathaniel, Reed, and Chase Johnson. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Mary Mayberry, and her husband, Pat Mayberry.
Jimmy found joy on the golf course, where he was a long-standing member of the Georgetown Country Club. His involvement as President and Board member showcased his leadership and commitment to fostering community spirit. His golfing buddies were not just friends but extended family, with whom he shared laughter and camaraderie.
Jimmy's warmth and charisma were evident in his love for storytelling. He often regaled friends and family with tales of his childhood in Hutto, spent in the loving company of his grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. These stories were not only entertaining but a testament to the deep roots and cherished memories of his upbringing.
A service to honor and celebrate Jimmy's remarkable life will be held on August 3, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Gabriel’s Funeral Home, located at 393 N. IH 35, Georgetown, TX 78628. Family, friends, and those whose lives he touched are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the time shared with him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Jimmy's memory to Isaiah 117 House, an organization close to his heart, located in Elizabethton, TN.
Jimmy Ray Johnson's legacy of kindness, story telling and love will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of many.
