April 5, 1940 — May 13, 2026

In loving memory, we honor the remarkable life of Jimmie Sue Martin, who passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on April 5, 1940, in the United States, Jimmie Sue was the beloved daughter of Irvin and Ethel Speake. Her life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and an unyielding spirit. Jimmie Sue faced numerous challenges from a young age. At just two years old, she battled osteomyelitis, followed shortly by polio. These early trials could have dampened the spirit of many, but not Jimmie Sue. She became the first civilian in Texas to receive penicillin treatment, a pioneering step that symbolized her courageous approach to life. Her motto, "I am only one. But still, I am one. I cannot do everything. But I can still do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the same thing that I can do," was a guiding principle that inspired all who knew her. Her professional journey began at Northern Telecom, where she thrived as a computer analyst. Her keen intellect and meticulous nature ensured her success. Opting for early retirement, Jimmie Sue didn't slow down; instead, she pursued a new path as an EMT and dispatcher for the Preston Fire Department, embodying her dedication to service and community. Jimmie Sue's compassion extended beyond her professional life. She dedicated time and energy to TAPS, where her contributions were deeply valued. Her leadership shone brightly as she ascended to the presidency of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her commitment to these causes was a reflection of her generous heart and unwavering belief in the power of community. Family was the cornerstone of Jimmie Sue's life. Predeceased by her parents, three siblings, and three beloved children, she remained a steadfast source of love and support for her surviving family members. She leaves behind her cherished son, Kyle Johnson, and his wife Ann, as well as her devoted daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johnson. Her legacy is further carried on by her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her later years. Though Jimmie Sue's journey has come to an end, her spirit and the lessons she imparted continue to resonate. Her family will commemorate her life with a private ceremony, choosing a later date to lay her ashes to rest at Preston Bend Cemetery. In this time of reflection and remembrance, we celebrate Jimmie Sue Martin's inspiring life, her indomitable spirit, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know and love her.
