In Loving Memory

Jim Vinyard
October 28, 1958 — August 9, 2026
James (Jim) Robert Vinyard, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 9, 2026 in Columbia, Missouri. Born on October 28, 1958, in Marshall, Missouri, Jim was the cherished son of George C. and Loid Smeeton Vinyard. Though he was predeceased by his parents and his nephew, John Vinyard, Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be remembered by all who knew him.
Jim's journey began in Marshall, where he grew up in a close-knit family that nurtured his many talents and passions. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1977. Like his father, Jim possessed a keen eye for photography. He found beauty in the aged facades of old barns and houses, capturing their stories through his lens. His photographs conveyed not just images, but also the deep appreciation he had for history and the world around him.
Known for his ready smile and quirky sense of humor, Jim had a wonderful ability to bring laughter into any room. His jokes and funny stories were legendary among his family and friends, providing moments of joy and connection that will be missed. Jim's love for animals was as profound as his affection for people, and he devoted much of his time to caring for and protecting them. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to support their local animal shelter, a cause that was close to his heart.
Jim is survived by his sister, Sandra Griffin and her husband Dan, his brother Ron Vinyard and his wife Jo Rita, as well as his nieces Allison, Audra, Susan, and Gracie. He also leaves behind several cousins and a multitude of friends who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
In celebrating Jim's life, we remember a man who lived with authenticity and passion. His legacy is one of laughter, love, and an enduring appreciation for the simple beauty in life. May we honor his memory by embracing the humor and compassion that he so effortlessly shared with the world.
