In Loving Memory

JIM ORSEN BAKKER,
January 2, 1940 — October 5, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Orsen Bakker, a beloved husband, father, and televangelist, who left this world on October 5, 2026. Born on January 2, 1940, in Muskegon, Michigan, Jim's journey through life was marked by faith, resilience, and a profound commitment to sharing the message of hope with countless individuals.
Jim was the cherished son of Furnia Lynette Irwin and Raleigh Ralph Bakker, both of whom predeceased him, along with his siblings Robert Bakker, Alice Goorman, Tammy Faye LaValley, Josephine Stearns, Arta Hale, and Oliver G. LaValla. Despite these losses, Jim's spirit remained unyielding, drawing strength from the love of his surviving family: his devoted wife, Lori Bakker, and his children, Tammy Sue Bakker and Jay Bakker.
A graduate of Muskegon High School in 1959, Jim's path led him to become a prominent televangelist with "The PTL Club," where his passion for ministry touched the hearts of many. His work was not just a career but a calling, one that he pursued with fervor and dedication, inspiring a generation of believers.
Jim's life was also enriched by the love he shared with his two wives. He married Tammy Faye LaValley in 1961, and together they embarked on a remarkable journey until her passing in 1992. In 1998, Jim found love again with Lori Bakker, with whom he shared the remaining years of his life.
Those who knew Jim will remember him as a man of incredible grace, whose faith guided him through life's challenges. His legacy is one of compassion, hope, and unwavering belief in the power of grace.
In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his memory. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Jim's spirit of generosity and kindness.
The family shares this special message, a testament to the grace that defined Jim's life:
"Amazing grace, oh, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when, when we first begun
Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come
'Tis grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home, home
Amazing grace, oh, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
Oh, I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
Was blind, but now I see"
Jim's journey is now complete, and he rests in eternal peace, embraced by the amazing grace that he so fervently believed in. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
