It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jill Elaine Bacon, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and caregiver to many. Jill departed from this world on April 11, 2026, at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Born on September 17, 1954, in Bloomington, Illinois, Jill was the beloved daughter of the late Florence and Dayle Garrett. The warmth of her upbringing in Bloomington was marked by the nurturing care of her parents and the companionship of her late brother, Mikel Garrett. Jill's early years were imbued with a love of life and a fiery spirit that would define her character and guide her through every stage.
Jill pursued higher education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she majored in physical education. Her time at the university was a period of growth and exploration, laying the foundation for her enduring commitment to health and wellness. It was here that she discovered her true calling in the field of healthcare, a path that would lead her to dedicate 30 years of her life to Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. As a nurse, Jill was a beacon of hope and healing, offering care and compassion to countless patients and families. Her colleagues remember her as a best friend to everyone, someone whose kindness and dedication made a profound impact each day.
Jill's nurturing spirit extended beyond her professional life into her family, where she was a devoted mother to her cherished children: Rita Bacon of Chicago, Taylor of Columbia, Missouri, Sarah Bacon of Bloomington, Indiana, and Garrett Bacon of Moberly, Missouri. Her love and guidance were ever-present, and her children were the pride of her life. Jill's legacy is further carried on by her precious grandchild, who brought her immense joy and a sense of fulfillment in her later years.
In addition to her professional achievements and familial devotion, Jill was known for her vivacious and fiery spirit. She had an innate ability to connect with people, making everyone she met feel valued and understood. Her laughter was infectious, and her zest for life was evident in her every action. Friends and family alike fondly recall her as a source of unwavering support and warmth, someone whose presence could light up a room and whose friendship was cherished by all.
In accordance with Jill's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and bid farewell to a remarkable woman whose impact was felt by all who were fortunate to know her.
While Jill's physical presence will be deeply missed, the memories of her love, kindness, and indomitable spirit will remain a guiding light for her family and friends. As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the profound difference one person can make in the world and the enduring legacy of a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Jill, so that her spirit of giving and compassion may continue to touch the lives of others.
