It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jessie James Hawthorne, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on July 17, 2026, at the age of 70. Jessie was born on October 19, 1955, in Griffin, Georgia, to the late Turner and Leila Hawthorne. His early years were spent in the warm embrace of his family, alongside his late siblings Odessa Akins, Willie Mae Gault, Leila Gilbert, Turner Hawthorne Jr., and Mike Hawthorne. Jessie was a proud graduate of Griffin High School in Griffin, Georgia, where he first showcased the quick wit and infectious smile that would leave an indelible mark on everyone he met. Known for his ability to light up any room, Jessie had a unique talent for making others laugh and feel at ease, no matter the circumstance. The heart of Jessie's life was his family. He was the loving father of his son, Mandela, and the proud grandfather of two cherished grandchildren. Jessie's family was his pride and joy, and he took great pleasure in every moment spent with them, whether it was sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply enjoying their company. In addition to his family, Jessie formed a community of friends who became like an extended family. His warmth, humor, and kindness touched the lives of many, and he will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a spirit that never failed to uplift those around him. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Jessie's remarkable life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 1:59 PM at Westwood Gardens Cemetery, located at 1104 Everee Inn Road. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jessie are invited to gather and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, as a gesture of continuing Jessie's legacy of compassion and community support. Jessie James Hawthorne will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved parents and siblings.
