It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Jessie Dixon Sr., a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend, on June 2, 2026, at his home in Carencro, Louisiana. Jessie was born on November 12, 1945, in the vibrant community of Sunset, where he would spend much of his life surrounded by the family he adored.
Jessie was the beloved son of the late Elly and Phylis Dixon, who instilled in him the values of love, hard work, and devotion to family. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings: brothers Leo Paul, Mack Xavier, Willie Charles, and James Elliot Dixon; and sisters Lucille Virginia, Brenda Marie, and Lil Dixon of Opelousas, LA. Their memories lived on in his heart, and he often spoke of them with fondness and reverence.
Jessie's legacy is carried forward by his devoted children: Connie Dixon Pitre and her husband Larry of Carencro, LA; Jessie Dixon Jr. and his partner Anitra Brooks of Sunset, LA; Tracy Dixon of Maryland; Tiffany Dixon LeBlanc and her husband CJ of Sunset; and John Dixon of Sunset. His family was his pride and joy, and he was a guiding light for his grandchildren and great grandchildren each of whom was a source of endless delight for him.
Jessie also leaves behind siblings who cherished and respected him deeply: George Booker T. Dixon of Houston, TX; Gerald Carver Dixon of Opelousas; Linda Louis of Sunset, LA; Rose Hoyrld and Myrtle Mae Rubin of Houston, TX. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends were fortunate to experience his steadfast support and kindness.
In his professional life, Jessie found fulfillment as a caretaker, a role that harmonized with his nurturing nature. He was known for his genuine smile, a reflection of his warm heart, and he consistently put his family's needs above his own. Jessie delighted in attending family gatherings, where his presence was a source of comfort and joy.
Services to honor Jessie's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Zion Travelers Baptist Church, located at 425 S Budd St, Sunset, LA 70584. As we gather to celebrate his life, we remember Jessie for the love he gave, the strength he showed, and the unwavering dedication he had to those he held dear.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support during this difficult time. A special thank you is extended to Debbie Green for her compassionate companionship with Jessie during his time of transition. Your prayers and kindness are a source of comfort to us all.
