Jesse O. Johnson Jr.

Born on September 6, 1944, in Savannah, Georgia, Jesse lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of many. Jesse retired from Emory Crawford Long Hospital after a dedicated career. Known for his energetic spirit and direct nature, he was a man who embraced life with passion and purpose. His love for learning and sharing knowledge was a defining trait, as he sought to inspire and motivate those around him. Jesse’s deep love for God and Christ was evident throughout his life, though he claimed no formal religious affiliations or memberships. Jesse found joy in dancing, biking, skating, making music, and traveling—activities that reflected his zest for life and creativity. His love for music was especially well-known among those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was affectionately remembered as "A Man Named Jesse," a title that encapsulated his unique personality and enduring legacy. Jesse is survived by his four daughters: LaJuan Dugger (Gary), Dominique Johnson, Andrea Barbee (Carl), and Tamika (Johnson) Veneszee; Son: Sean Masterson, six grandchildren: LaToya, Alisha, Carlika, Shamiya, Raynard, D'Vone, and Marcus; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Jesse O. Johnson Sr. (1990); his mother, Catherine Henderson (2011); his son, Vandell Jesse Johnson (2016); and his brother, Basil Johnson (2026). Jesse’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy of love for God, music, dancing, learning, and life continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
