Jesse Jackson
October 31, 1957 — September 25, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jesse Jackson, who peacefully left this world on September 25, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on October 31, 1957, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Jesse was the cherished son of Hazel and Rhoscoe Stokes.
Jesse was a beacon of love and strength to his family, his beloved wife Sherry Jackson-Stokes, with whom he shared a 25-year marriage filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Hattie Jackson, Jesse Jackson, and stepdaughter Charlene Jackson-Glasco, who predeceased him.
Jesse's legacy of love extends to his eight cherished grandchildren: Yasmine Jackson, Samirah Estelle, Arvelle Jackson, Darrell Johnson, Aresse Johnson, Areanna Jackson, Akeese Watkins, and Your'Honor Jackson, as well as his three great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
He is fondly remembered by his brothers Jimmy Stokes and Wesley Stokes, and his brother-in-law Otis Jackson. Jesse was also blessed with a circle of close friends who were like family: Will Shynn, Marco, Ricky Watson, Arnold Austin, Curtis Lang, Alfred Moore, and Tyrone Emerson.
Educated at Bloom Township High School, Jesse graduated in 1975 and embarked on a life of hard work. He dedicated many years to his career, concluding as a respected forklift operator at UGN, Inc. before enjoying his well-earned retirement.
Jesse's life was enriched by his passions. An avid fisherman, he found tranquility by the lakes and rivers, casting his line and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. His love for gospel music was a testament to his deep faith, which he shared with his family and friends, providing solace and inspiration to those around him.
A service to honor Jesse’s life will be held on October 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM at True Foundation Church, located at 189 E Lincoln Hwy, Chicago Heights, IL 60411. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jesse's memory.
As we reflect on Jesse's life, his family wishes to share a message of hope and faith from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14: "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."
Jesse Jackson's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Jesse Jackson welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
