Jerry Lucas

February 8, 1944 — September 7, 2026

Jerry Lucas, lovingly remembered as a devoted family man and a friend to all, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer and dementia. Born on February 8, 1944, in Ottumwa, Iowa, Jerry was the cherished son of Otis and Ruth Lucas, who predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Lucas, with whom he shared a remarkable 34 years of marriage. Jerry's life was a testament to his love for family, hard work, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. He was a man of many talents—a truck driver by profession and a jack of all trades by nature. He possessed an innate ability to fix just about anything, a skill that was as admirable as it was practical. His passion for life was evident in the joy he found in simple pleasures. Jerry loved working outdoors, spending a day at the beach, and most importantly, cherishing every moment with his family. His home was always open, and he was never too busy to lend a helping hand or share a story. Jerry had the unique gift of making everyone feel welcome and valued—traits that endeared him to many. Jerry's marriage to Nancy was a beautiful chapter of his life. Married on April 26, 1988, they danced through life together, creating memories that would become the bedrock of their family. Their love story is one that will continue to inspire their children and grandchildren for generations to come. He is survived by his six children, Melissa (Christina) Lucas, Melinda Lucas, Amber Dyson, Brittany Robinson, Brandi Powers, Kwyn Lucas, and Angel Lucas, who were the pride of his life. Jerry's legacy also lives on in his seven grandchildren, Aisha Pena, Thai Powers, Austin and Anthony Turner, Ansleigh Robinson, Talon and Corbin Miller, who brought immense joy to his heart. Jerry's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this trying time. They find comfort in knowing that Jerry's spirit will continue to guide and inspire the generations that follow. As a special message from his family, "Even though you are gone, we will always carry you in our hearts and always remember the things you taught us and will pass them along to our kids and grandkids." In honor of Jerry's life and his generous spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Jerry's lifelong commitment to helping others. Jerry Lucas will be forever missed, but his legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
