Jerry Leonard Gibbs

Jerry Leonard Gibbs, born on February 17, 1955, in Canton, Ohio, departed this life on August 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and countless fond memories. Jerry was a devoted son to the late Julius Gibbs and Ida Victoria (Gasden) Gibbs and has now rejoined his cherished siblings Nathaniel, Lunell, Lillian, and Andrew in eternal rest. Jerry's journey through life was marked by his deep commitment to family, community, and faith. He attended Hartford grade school before graduating from Canton McKinley High School in 1974. Following his education, Jerry answered the call of duty and serve in the US Army, where he honed his skills in repair and maintenance—a talent that would become his lifelong passion. In his younger years, Jerry attended St. Paul A.M.E. Church, regularly. His ability to fix and mend started in grade school. He had a turn-table cassette player and radio. One day it stopped working, his sister Lillian (Sissy) told him he should throw it away. In a day or so, he took the player apart and fixed it. Everyone was amazed asking him how he did it. His simple response was, "I just fixed it" . They then enjoyed a working radio. Jerry's heart was firmly rooted in family. He shared a special bond with his childhood friend, Glenda Murray. He found joy in raising his children, Heather Gibbs, Jamal Gibbs and stepson Davon Dowdell while living in Detroit. He was the proud grandfather of three. After his time in the Army, Jerry settled in Detroit, Michigan, where he married and nurtured his family for 25 years. Eventually, he returned to his hometown of Canton, Ohio, where for over three decades, he devoted himself to helping others through his exceptional repair skills. Whether working in homes or businesses, Jerry’s affordable and expert repairs were a blessing to many. Jerry was a good man, and his presence will be deeply missed, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. Jerry's life will be celebrated during a Memorial Repass on September 11, 2026, at 6:00PM-10:00 PM. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to his craft and community will be remembered by all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness and service will remain in the hearts of those he touched.
