In loving memory of Jerry Gilbert Baugher, who departed this world on June 6, 2026, after a long and courageous journey. Jerry died peacefully under hospice care at Casey House, surrounded by the love of his devoted family. Born on August 31, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jerry was the cherished son of George Harry Gilbert and Selena Detamore Baugher. Jerry was a man of remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and an adventurous spirit. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lillian Baugher, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage. His legacy continues through his loving wife of 13 years, Jane (Kinney) Baugher, whose companionship brought joy and warmth to his later years. Jerry’s life was a testament to dedication and service. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from September 28, 1970, to March 28, 1972, in the USA Medical Unit at Fort Detrick, MD, earning the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. His commitment to his country was mirrored in his professional life, where he worked diligently for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) until his retirement in 2008, and later for BrookGrove as an Administrative Assistant for Plant Management, retiring finally in January 2016. Education was a valued pursuit for Jerry, who graduated from Washington Adventist University and later completed his J.D., reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and excellence. His faith was central to his life, guiding him in his roles as an active member and elder of several Seventh-day Adventist Churches, where he contributed significantly to church leadership teams. Jerry was also a passionate advocate for health and fitness, participating in extreme fitness events across all 50 states and around the world, including marathons, cycling events, and AVA (American Volkswalk Association) activities—an organization he served as President for many years. His adventurous spirit led him to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and ski many mountain tops, embodying his zest for life. A man of generosity, Jerry was a dedicated volunteer with the American Red Cross, donating over 165 pints of blood and platelets. He was known for his quick wit and the joy he brought to those around him, as well as his kindness and generosity. He delighted in growing a large garden, sharing its bounty with neighbors, friends, and his church community. Jerry is survived by his stepdaughter, Kathleen Cook, and her husband, David Cook; his grandsons, Brent Cook and his wife, Noriko, and Ross Cook and his wife, Leslie; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Amanda (and her spouse, Adam Cook), Kevin, Taylor, and Ally. He is also remembered fondly by many beloved cousins. A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 6437 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, MD 21703. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Casey House, in honor of the compassionate care Jerry received. Jane Baugher and family extend their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, visits, and shared memories during this time. They feel blessed by all who contributed to making Jerry’s life meaningful, purposeful, and abundantly enjoyable. May you each be richly blessed. Jerry’s indomitable spirit and loving nature will be dearly missed, yet his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
