With heavy hearts yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Jerry Don Yount Sr., from Jacksonville, Florida departed from this world on May 8, 2026, at the age of 77. Jerry's journey began on March 25, 1949, in Georgetown, Texas, as the cherished son of Darvin L. Yount and Dorothy Marie Yount. Jerry was a man of many talents and even greater compassion. He served his country with distinction as a Navy corpsman and aerospace medicine technician for 11 years. His dedication to service was mirrored by his dedication to humanity; he possessed an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Jerry truly never met a stranger, and his genuine warmth made everyone feel like they belonged. A gifted musician, Jerry had a profound love for music that defined much of his life. He was not just a musician but a mentor, sharing his passion for music with troubled youth who sought solace and guidance under his roof. His home, a sanctuary for those in need, was filled with melodies and laughter, a testament to his belief in the healing power of music and love. Jerry's musical journey was rich and varied, having led praise and worship in every church he attended. His talent opened doors to play with renowned bands, including the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd, leaving a legacy of joy and harmony that will echo for generations. Jerry's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He loved God with all his heart and infused that love into everything he did. His spiritual leadership in music and life inspired countless others, and his devotion to his faith was unwavering. Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Darvin L. Yount, and his beloved son, Jerry Don Yount Jr. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in his surviving family: his devoted daughter, Michelle Jackson; his loving son, Lewie Yount; his youngest daughter Ashley Yount, his sister, Debbie Mabry; six grandchildren ; and two great-grandchildren. Jerry Don Yount Sr. will be remembered for his boundless kindness, his musical genius, and his unwavering faith. As we bid him farewell, we hold onto the music he shared and the love he bestowed, knowing that his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
