Jerry Don Collins
June 15, 1937 — May 20, 2026
Jerry Don Collins, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Tuttle, Oklahoma, on May 20, 2026, at the age of 88. Surrounded by the love of his family, Jerry ended his long and courageous battle with dementia/Alzheimer's in the same way he lived his life—with grace and dignity.
Born on June 15, 1937, in Clovis, New Mexico, Jerry was the cherished son of William Paul and Lorena Mae Collins, who predeceased him. He was a beloved brother to Jack and Wayne Collins, both of whom survive him.
Jerry's life was a testament to love and commitment, most notably seen in his 70-year marriage to Janette Firestone Collins. The couple was wed on August 14, 1955, and together they built a family and a legacy grounded in love, faith, and unwavering support for one another. Jerry and Janette were blessed with three children: Donnie, who, along with his wife Joanie, carries on his father’s legacy; Tammy Locke and her husband Lonnie, who have reflected Jerry's warmth and kindness in their lives; and Ricky, who with his wife Dee, continues to honor his father's spirit. Jerry's family further flourished with the addition of eight grandchildren, Chad Collins, Kaysie Anderson, Cole Collins, Chase Collins, Bryan Collins, Brittany Blount, Jason Locke, Caden Locke and nineteen great-grandchildren, each a testament to his life well-lived.
Jerry was a man of many talents and careers, having worked as a milkman, in pest control, as a dairy farmer, in an upholstery shop, and as a truck driver. No matter the job, he brought the same passion and dedication to his work as he did to his family. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for hunting and fishing, and he cherished watching his children and grandchildren play ball, always their biggest fan. Yet, perhaps his favorite pastime was simply "piddling" in his shop, where he found peace and joy in the simple act of creating and fixing.
A pillar of his community, Jerry was a dedicated member of the Tuttle Church of Christ for over 60 years. His service as a Deacon for many years and as an Elder for ten years left an indelible mark on his congregation, as did his quick wit and warm, welcoming smile, which made all who met him feel valued and at ease. His kindness touched countless lives, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Jerry leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity. His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Russel Murray Hospice for their kind and compassionate care during Jerry's final days.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tuttle Church of Christ, located at 404 SW 3rd, Tuttle, Oklahoma. All those whose lives were touched by Jerry are invited to join his family in remembering a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Jerry's memory, in hopes of finding a cure for this devastating disease.
As we say goodbye to Jerry, we hold dear the memories of his love, laughter, and unwavering faith. His legacy of kindness and strength will live on in our hearts forever.
