It is with profound sadness and deep appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jerry Byron Spruell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted servant of God. Jerry passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at the home of his son, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. He was 83 years old.
Born on August 6, 1942, in the serene landscapes of Cleburne County, Alabama, Jerry was the cherished son of Robert Mitchell Spruell and Willie Lee McLeod. He was guided through life by the values and love imparted by his parents, who preceded him in death, along with his brother, Wendell Spruell, and his precious granddaughters, Sarah and Meghan Spruell, whose memories were forever held close to his heart.
In 1961, Jerry married the love of his life, Rosa, in a beautiful ceremony in Bowdon, Georgia. Together, they crafted a remarkable journey, marking 65 years of unwavering love, partnership, and shared dreams. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Duane Spruell, who, along with his wife Gloria, provided endless joy; and daughters Dawn Brown and Darlene Whisenhunt, who filled Jerry's life with pride and happiness. Jerry's legacy continues to flourish in the lives of his family, who will carry forward his teachings and memories.
Jerry spent three decades dedicated to his work at Southwire, where he was respected not just for his work ethic, but for his integrity and kindness. Beyond his professional endeavors, Jerry devoted 40 years of his life as a Baptist minister, touching countless lives with his messages of faith, hope, and love. He served as a pastor at Peachtree Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia, and Antioch Baptist Church in Heard County, Georgia, where he was not only a spiritual guide but a pillar of the community.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jerry's remarkable life on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, located at 79 Dot Road, Bowdon, Georgia. As we gather to honor Jerry's life, we will remember his warm smile, his gentle spirit, and his unwavering faith.
