September 26, 1960 — June 24, 2026
With heavy hearts yet filled with gratitude for the life he lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Jerry Brown on June 24, 2026, at the age of 65. Jerry departed this world surrounded by love and comfort in hospice care, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, and unwavering faith.
Born on September 26, 1960, in Crowley, Louisiana, Jerry was the cherished son of the late Geraldine and Wesley Brown. He was a beacon of joy and resilience, carrying the love of his parents and siblings into every chapter of his life. His formative years in Crowley shaped the man he became, instilling values that would guide him through his remarkable journey.
A proud alumnus of Crowley High School, Class of 1978, Jerry pursued higher education and graduated with a Bachelor's in Political Science from Southern University in Baton Rouge in 1983. His passion for justice and community service led him to a fulfilling career as a Deputy Probation Officer at the Los Angeles County Probation Department, where he served with dedication and compassion from November 1989 until his retirement in June 2016.
Jerry's life was a testament to love and partnership, marked by his marriage to Desiree Brown on February 18, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their union of 36 years was a tapestry of laughter, peace, and faith—a testament to the enduring power of love. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising two wonderful children, Jordan and Thierry Brown. Jerry took immense pride in being a grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Bonnie Mendez.
His family was his anchor, and he cherished the moments spent with his siblings—Weslyn, Dwayne, Kelvin, Tangie, and Jeffrey—and the extended circle of cousins from the Brown, Garrett, and Garrick families. Each relationship was a thread in the rich fabric of his life, woven with love and shared memories.
Outside his professional life, Jerry was an avid sports enthusiast, with a passion for football and basketball. He was never far from the melodies of R&B, gospel, and hip-hop, or the enduring tales of westerns. His faith was a guiding light, and as an active member of Rock of the Valley C.O.G.I.C., he found a spiritual home that enriched his life and those around him.
Those who knew Jerry will remember his quick wit and radiant smile. His ability to see the beauty in every situation and his unwavering positivity were gifts to all who crossed his path. Jerry's presence was a unifying force, bringing people together in joy and celebration.
A service to honor and celebrate Jerry's life will be held on July 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Rock of the Valley COGIC, located at 7722 Kester Ave, Van Nuys, CA 91405. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
