August 5, 1940 – April 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jerry Alfred Martin, who left this world peacefully in his sleep on April 3, 2026, after bravely battling cancer. Jerry was born on August 5, 1940, in the quaint town of Modesto, California, to the late Alfred Jerome Martin and Mildred Hope (Walsh) Martin. He was 85 years old.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brother, Rex Martin, and leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his cherished wife of 56 years, Susan Dawn Meireis, whom he married on a warm summer day on August 2, 1969, in Los Angeles, California. Together, they built a life filled with adventure, hard work, and boundless love.
Jerry's life was a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering work ethic. He was a lifelong business owner, having operated a Union Oil Distributorship in Mariposa, California. Alongside Susan, he owned and managed three grocery stores, and together, they ran a successful outfitting business in Northern Wyoming. Even after retirement, Jerry's industrious nature led him back to work, hauling trailers with the same vigor and dedication he applied to all his endeavors.
Jerry's passion for the great outdoors was evident in his love for hunting Mule Deer and fly fishing the Big Horn River in Montana. He was a prolific hunter, often admiring the mounts that filled his home with stories of adventures past. His affinity for sports, particularly baseball, was a lifelong passion. A loyal San Francisco Giants fan in his youth, Jerry's allegiance shifted to the Atlanta Braves, and he relished every opportunity to watch them play, whether in Atlanta or Colorado.
Above all, Jerry's greatest joy came from his family. He was a steadfast supporter of his children and grandchildren, beaming with pride as his grandson joined the Marines and cherishing the unique bond he shared with each of his granddaughters. His daughter, Stephanie Rose, held a special place in his heart, and their relationship was one of his most treasured.
Jerry is survived by his loving children: sons Alfred (Wendy) Martin and Jarod (Jessica) Martin; daughters Jennifer Martin and Stephanie Martin; and his dear sister, Gale Vaughn. His legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren, Shyanna, Caiden, Amelia, Melayna, Aubrianna, Elizabeth, Jerry, and Grace, and his six great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Brylee, Braxton, and Brantley.
Those who knew Jerry will remember him as a man of integrity, warmth, and generosity. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. His family, friends, and community will forever cherish the memories of his laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support.
In accordance with Jerry's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jerry's memory.
Jerry Alfred Martin's life was a tapestry of love, adventure, and dedication. As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, we hold close the memories of a man whose legacy will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Jerry.
