JERRY ALBERT VANKIRK
July 8, 1944 — March 4, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Jerry Albert VanKirk, who left this world on March 4, 2026, at the age of 81. Jerry was born on July 8, 1944, in the quaint town of Dowagiac, Michigan, where his life's journey began, guided by the love and teachings of his late parents, George and Carol.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his cherished brother William "Bill" VanKirk, his dear son Ronald Davis, and his grandson Charlie Topping, all of whom he missed dearly. Despite these profound losses, Jerry's spirit remained unyielding, continuously fueled by the love and laughter of his surviving family.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Gail VanKirk, who stood by his side since their marriage in 1968. Together, they created a beautiful family, which includes his daughters Jodi Topping and Melissa Powell, and his son, Jerry Lee VanKirk. Jerry's legacy also lives on through his nine adoring grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Jerry's career as a truck driver for J.B. Hunts spanned an incredible 56 years, during which he traveled the vast roads of the United States. His work was more than just a job; it was a testament to his enduring work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Those who knew Jerry remember him as a kind and funny soul, whose quick wit and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Beyond his work, Jerry found solace and creativity in woodworking, a hobby that allowed him to express his artistry and craftsmanship. His creations, much like his life, were crafted with care, precision, and love and will forever be charished by his family.
A dinner to honor Jerry will be held for his children and grandchildren on March 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM at his home. In addition, a celebration of life will take place on March 28th at the family farmhouse in Union City, where family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate a life that touched so many.
Jerry's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared in his journey, offering support and love during this difficult time. As we reflect on Jerry's remarkable life, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Jerry's memory by performing an act of kindness in his name, spreading the joy and love that he so generously shared with the world.
