Jerrell hedgepeth
April 12, 1972 — June 9, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jerrell Hedgepeth, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at home on June 9, 2026, at the age of 54. Jerrell was born on April 12, 1972, in Peoria, Illinois, to Raymond and Lana Hedgepeth, and from the moment he arrived, he brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Jerrell was a man of remarkable character and warmth, known for being the life of the party and capable of lighting up any room with his infectious smile and towering presence. His journey was one of dedication and love, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A proud veteran, Jerrell served in the United States Army from 1990 to 1998, reaching the rank of Sergeant. His service took him to Germany for four years, where he proudly represented his country and forged friendships that lasted a lifetime.
After his military service, Jerrell found his calling in the field of education, where he devoted himself to mentoring young minds. His ability to connect with children and inspire them was a testament to his compassionate nature and unwavering belief in the potential of every individual.
On February 5, 2013, Jerrell married the love of his life, Lisa Hedgepeth, in Peoria. Together, they spent 28 wonderful years, 13 of which were as a married couple, building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. They raised two beautiful children, Shamirah and Jerrell (Jr.), who were the center of Jerrell's universe. His legacy of love and kindness lives on in them and in his two precious grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy and pride.
Jerrell's passions extended beyond his family and career. He had a deep love for fishing and never missed the opening season, often spending tranquil mornings by the water, reflecting on life's blessings. His red Corvette was his pride and joy, a symbol of his zest for life and adventure.
Jerrell is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa; his children, Shamirah and Jerrell (Jr.); his siblings, Jabari, Ceddron, and Chrystal Hedgepeth; and his two cherished grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother, Michael Hedgepeth, whom he now joins in rest.
A service to celebrate Jerrell's life will be held on June 19, 2026, at 1:30 PM at the Riverside Community Church, located at 207 NE Monroe St. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor a man whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and joy.
The Hedgepeth family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff and hospital for their compassionate care during Jerrell's final days. In their words, "Forever in our hearts."
Jerrell Hedgepeth's legacy of love, laughter, and light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
