Jerome Franklin Walters

Jerome Franklin Walters, affectionately known as Jerry, peacefully departed this life on July 31, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 2, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Jerry was the cherished son of Hazel Walters, who predeceased him. He carried the values taught by his loving mother throughout his life, and now he has joined her in eternal rest. Jerry's life was a testament to dedication, love, and service to both his family and faith. He was the beloved husband of Delores Webb, whom he married on August 25, 1973. Together, they shared a beautiful union of 53 years, marked by unwavering support and companionship. Their journey together was blessed with a loving family, including their son Michael Jonathan, daughter Pamela Jones, and a legacy of five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward. A proud graduate of Central High School, Jerry was an enthusiastic member of the cheerleading team, embodying school spirit and camaraderie. His sense of duty extended beyond his education as he honorably served in the Navy as a medical assistant aboard the USS Ashtabula, stationed around the Philippines in 1962. Jerry's professional life was as varied as it was industrious. He began his career at Harvester, followed by diverse roles including working at Trimline striping cars, teaching diving and swimming at Olympia, and serving at the State School. Jerry was also a familiar face to many as a city bus driver and janitor. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his self-employed ventures, from carpet cleaning to shade tree mechanic work, and commercial and residential cleaning. Above all, Jerry's heart belonged to his faith. Baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on November 14, 1970, he dedicated his life to teaching others about the Bible. For 53 years, he shared his love for Jehovah with the Southeast congregation in Chicago, Illinois. His commitment to his faith was reflected in every aspect of his life, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Delores, his children, grandchildren, his sibling Rory Walters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to everyone who offered compassionate services, patience, and dedication during this time. A service to honor Jerry's remarkable life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 6000 Abbott Street. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice. Jerry Walters touched the lives of many through his kindness, work ethic, and unwavering faith. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
