Jerome Edward McBride
October 19, 1954
It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jerome Edward McBride, who departed this world peacefully at his home on June 7, 2026. Born on October 19, 1954, in the charming town of Mullins, Marion County, South Carolina, Jerome graced this world for 71 cherished years.
Jerome was the beloved son of the late Robert and Eleanor (Cheadle) McBride, who nurtured him with love and wisdom. As a young boy, Jerome roamed the streets of Mullins, where his journey of lifelong learning began. He attended Palmetto Elementary and High Schools before graduating from Mullins High School in May 1972, forming the foundation for a future dedicated to service and compassion.
Jerome built a remarkable 37-year career in the financial services sector, with notable contributions in both banking and insurance. His work was marked by integrity and diligence, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Jerome's commitment to excellence was a testament to his character and work ethic.
His spiritual journey was rooted in the teachings of the Historic Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Mullins, where he received his early Christian education. In 1979, Jerome embraced the spiritual community at Loving St. James Baptist Church in Spencer, Oklahoma, forging bonds that would last a lifetime. Later, on May 15, 2016, he found a new spiritual home with the Compassionate Care Ministries under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Lance O. Smith, whose leadership and fellowship enriched Jerome's faith.
Jerome's life was a tapestry of service and kindness. He dedicated himself to nurturing the potential of youth through educational opportunities and was a tireless advocate for the senior generations, offering his support and wisdom to all who sought it. His passion for growing vibrant flowerbeds, sprinkled with the occasional vegetable, was a reflection of his nurturing spirit, much like his love for Gospel music that filled the air with joy, even if his singing was humorously off-key.
Those who knew Jerome were touched by his warm smile and his gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His natural kindness and generosity were boundless, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. His legacy endures through his surviving siblings: Robert Louis (La'Vetta) McBride, Devoe McBride, Rose McBride-Page, Bobbie Jean McBride-McLaughlin, and Samuel (Orleatha) McBride. He also leaves behind his cherished niece, Bobbie Lavon Rosario, his beloved aunts, Bettye Cheadle and Aurthor Mae Cheadle, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers, and dear church members.
Special recognition goes to Roberta Karlene Mosley and Cecilia Mosley Whitmore, whose care and companionship were a source of comfort to Jerome in his later years. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Compassionate Care Ministries for their unwavering love, care, and support, as well as the dedicated staff of St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City for their excellent care.
Jerome is now reunited in eternal peace with his predeceased family, including his paternal grandparents, Mr. Sam and Mrs. Geneva Ray McBride Reeves, maternal grandparents, Mr. Samuel and Mrs. Millisa Finley Cheadle, his parents, his brother Kenneth McBride, and his niece Nycole McLaughlin.
As we gather to celebrate Jerome's life, the family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has joined them today. Your presence is a testament to the love and respect Jerome inspired throughout his remarkable life. Thank you for honoring his memory and continuing to spread the kindness and compassion that Jerome so effortlessly shared with the world.
