With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Jerald J. Blanding on May 30, 2026, at his home, surrounded by love. Jerald was born on March 17, 1948, in Jamaica, New York, to the late Earline Blanding Davis. His journey through life was one marked by service, dedication, and love for family.
Jerald proudly served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army from January 12, 1965, to January 12, 1969, during the Vietnam War. His bravery and unwavering commitment on the battlefield earned him numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Purple Heart. The sacrifices he made for his country, both visible and hidden, were a testament to his extraordinary courage.
Following his military service, Jerald continued to serve others as a Police Officer with the New York City Police Department (NYPD). His career in law enforcement reflected his lifelong dedication to duty and his community, embodying the values he held dear.
Beyond his professional life, Jerald cherished the moments spent with his family. Despite the distances that sometimes separated them, he made every effort to remain connected, engaging in long, heartfelt conversations that left a lasting impact on those closest to him. He found immense joy and pride in his family, particularly in his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jerald is survived by his son, Courtney D. Beauford, and his grandchildren's mother, Sharon L. Beauford. He leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Brianna and Brittany Beauford of Sumter, South Carolina, and a cherished great-granddaughter, Kinsley Lowery. Jerald’s family was his greatest treasure, and he held them in his heart until his final days.
In honoring Jerald's memory, the family suggests that donations be made in his name to organizations supporting disabled veterans, reflecting his enduring legacy of service and sacrifice.
Jerald J. Blanding’s life was one of dedication and love, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him. As we say farewell, we honor the indelible mark he left on our hearts and the world around him.
