Jenny Lynn Woollums, AKA "Red" and "Giggles", born on September 13, 1963, to Robert White, Jr and Phyllis White, in Mason City, IA, passed away at Compassus Care at the University of Iowa on March 31, 2026, surrounded by her family after a long, courageous battle with liver disease. Her son, Robert, was her steadfast caregiver throughout her illness, providing unwavering support when she needed it most. Her life was a living example of Walt Whitman's words, "That the powerful play goes on, and you will contribute a verse." Jenny's verse was rich, inspiring, and defined by courage and compassion.
Though she moved to Fairfield, Iowa, two years ago, Jenny's legacy of service was built during her years as a firefighter and EMT for the Lovilia Fire Department. She navigated emergencies with an unruffled calm, serving as a beacon of hope for those in their most desperate hours. Her vocation was more than a job, it was a testament to her character. As Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Jenny made everyone feel safe and loved, and she will never be forgotten.
Jenny was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Woollums; her father, Robert White, Jr; her mother, Phyllis White Henderson; her brother, John White; and her brother-in-law, Rick Harper.
She is survived by her son, Robert Woollums; her daughter, Samantha Woollums Patterson; her five siblings: Jackie White (Rick), Jeff White, Janet Schroeder (Tony), Joanna White (Mark), James White (Lylah). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Ashlynn Woollums and Zander Stice; her great grandson, Hayden Nine; and a large, loving extended family of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jenny found joy in the simple things. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Kiss fan who loved to sew, craft, read, and travel. Whether she was camping, sitting by a fire, or watching horses, she was happiest outdoors. At home, you could find her laughing along to the Golden Girls, watching the Hallmark Channel, or catching up on fire and rescue shows. She lived to make others laugh, and her final message to those she loved was simple: "I love you all. Live life to the fullest." In the words of George Eliot, "Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them." Jenny's spirit will live on in the stories we share, the memories we hold, and the lives she touched.
