Jennifer Rena Stokes, a beacon of love and laughter, was born on November 27, 1965, in Davenport, Iowa. She was a woman whose generous heart and infectious spirit touched many lives. Jennifer passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born to Mrs. Mae Dean Stokes and the late John Stokes, Jennifer was the beloved sister of the late Katherine and Erwin Stokes. Her legacy of kindness and strength lives on through her daughter, Katherine Dortch, and her cherished granddaughters, Jonise and Jayla Dortch. Jennifer is also lovingly remembered by her mother, Mrs. Mae Dean Stokes; her sister, Gloria Drummond of Memphis, Tennessee; and her brothers, Russell (Julie) Stokes and Milton Stokes of Davenport, Iowa, and Bryant (Teresa) Stokes of San Antonio, Texas. Her extended family includes uncles C. Russell Stokes and James (Regina) Stokes of Davenport, Iowa; aunts Adell Holts and Mozilla Adams of Senatobia, Mississippi, and Catherine Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Jennifer was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1984, where she embodied the school's motto, "We lead, others follow." She would always let you know she was a “Proud Washingtonian.” Following her education, she dedicated herself to serving her country by enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving four years on active duty and six years in the reserves. Her professional journey began at First Tennessee Bank, where she spent 17.5 years in International Finance. She later contributed her talents to Carmichael for five years, and her last role was at Donavan, where she worked with dedication until her health declined. Jennifer's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and was an active member of Greater New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev Ralph Lofton. She later joined Cummings Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her passing. A woman of unwavering compassion, Jennifer was a lifelong blood donor and committed to helping those in need. Her generosity extended to supporting multiple shelters and organizing Christmas drives for families. She had a remarkable ability to bring joy to others with her beautiful smile and quick wit, making people laugh effortlessly. Her welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Jennifer will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
