Jennie Johnson Crane, a beloved soul whose life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience, departed this world on September 9, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on October 5, 1942, in Mangham, Louisiana, Jennie was a cherished daughter of Maggie Jackson Draper and Frank Draper. Her life was a magnificent tapestry of love, dedication, and unwavering faith. Jennie was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Henery Crane, and her family members: brother Willie Draper; sisters Alice Chapman, Willie B. Seymore, Beulah Johnson, twin Essie Mae Draper, and Maggie Draper; sons Henery Fontenote and Herbert Draper; daughters Veronica and Cynthia Draper; and grandchildren Terrance, Tristant, and MaKizziya. Though their absence is felt deeply, the legacy of love that Jennie leaves behind is profound. She is survived by her devoted children: Micheal C. Draper (Evelyn), Sandra Ann Smith, Sherrill Bluett (Bobby), and Tamika Champion (David). Her grandchildren, Kamel, Dewaye, Kimshi, Herbert Jr., Ramonica, Benny, Anthony, Santana, Cornail, Cameron, Mikeisha, Jeffery, Savana, Shekeitha, Micheal Jr., Mikera, Demarcus, Marquisha, Tirique, Crystal, and Clayton, will continue to honor her memory. Jennie's heart was expansive, and she also leaves behind her godchildren, Karen, Sharon, Denice, Nicole, and James, along with a multitude of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and countless friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness. Jennie's professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work at the Houston Independent School District (HISD), where she spent many years lovingly preparing meals for students before retiring. Her commitment to providing for her family and her community was exemplary, and her work ethic was admired by all who knew her. Jennie professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church, and her unwavering devotion continued throughout her life. She found a spiritual home at Greater New Testament Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, where she faithfully served under the guidance of Rev. S.W. Watson and later Rev. A. Lafleur. Jennie's faith was her cornerstone, and her life was a testament to God's love and grace. Known for her generosity, honesty, and outspoken nature, Jennie had a unique ability to make everyone feel like family. Her love knew no bounds, and she welcomed everyone with open arms and a caring spirit. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. A service to celebrate Jennie's remarkable life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater New Testament Baptist Church, 7409 Calhoun, Houston, Texas. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice in Jennie's memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. They find solace in the words, "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning," as they navigate this new season in their lives.
