Jeffrey C. LaVare Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, in Binghamton, New York, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on April 16, 1955, in Binghamton, Jeffrey was a beacon of strength and kindness, touching the lives of everyone who knew him.
Jeffrey was the cherished son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth LaVare. He was predeceased by his brother, Mark, and is survived by his devoted wife of 17 years, Karen, whom he married in a beautiful ceremony at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton, NY. Jeffrey is also survived by his wife Karen's son, David; his brothers, Kenneth and Timothy (Shirley), and his sisters, Elizabeth, Victoria, and Jodie. He leaves behind his five children, Jeffrey C. Jr.; Scott (Jennifer); Ross (Danielle); Evan; and Rachael (Gerry), and grandchildren Zander, Xavier, Miles and his youngest grandson, Brahm, who brought immense joy to his life.
A proud graduate of Harpursville High School in the Class of 1973, Jeffrey pursued further education in IT Technology, which laid the foundation for a distinguished 30-year career at IBM, from which he retired in 2020. His dedication to continuous learning in IT technology was a testament to his commitment and passion for his work.
Jeffrey was an active member of The Way International since 2007, where he found a community that shared his values and beliefs. His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, cycling, and maintaining an active lifestyle, which he enjoyed immensely until his retirement.
Known for his great heart and sense of humor, Jeffrey was always ready to lend a helping hand. His warmth and compassion left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and close friends are invited to celebrate Jeffrey's life at a service on August 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Knox Cemetery, located at 488 Mountain Rd, Windsor/Ouaquaga, NY. Following the service at the cemetery, please join Karen and family at a luncheon at Touch of Texas on Front Street from noon until 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jeffrey's memory to the ALS Hope Foundation.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to ALS of Syracuse, NY, Hospice of Broome County, and Dr. Remey Hasan of UHS for their exceptional care and support during Jeffrey's illness.
Jeffrey's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
