February 4, 1953 — May 6, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Jeanette Lucka on May 6, 2026. Jeanette, affectionately known as Jan to her loved ones, slipped from this world in the serenity of her sleep at her beloved home, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and endless love. She was born on February 4, 1953, in Hammond, Indiana, to Ruth Lee Gilland and Delbert Stoghmohn, who predeceased her along with her brother, Michael Stoghmohn. Jan possessed an extraordinary ability to connect with others, living by the adage that she never met a stranger. Her life was a testament to the power of genuine compassion and hospitality, qualities that endeared her to all who crossed her path. Her warmth and infectious smile could light up any room, and her unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Graduating from House Baptist School in 1970, Jan carried forth the values and friendships from her education into her adult life. On May 7, 1978, she married the love of her life, Bryan Lucka, embarking on a beautiful journey of partnership and devotion that spanned nearly five decades. Their union was a beacon of love and mutual respect, inspiring those around them. Jan was a devoted mother to her two sons, David "Misty" Lucka and Daniel "Renee" Lucka, who were her greatest source of pride. Her nurturing spirit and supportive presence shaped their lives profoundly, and she was equally cherished by her two grandsons, Derek Lucka and Adam Lucka, who brought immense joy to her days. Family was the cornerstone of Jan’s life. She is survived by her loving husband, Bryan, and her siblings: Timothy "Carol" Stoghmohn, Gerald "Lanita" Stoghmohn, Janycke "Chasity" Stoghmohn, Kathy "Dean" Noble, Linda "Terry" Thompson, and Judy "Kenny" Glass. Each sibling held a special place in her heart, and their bonds were unbreakable, strengthened by shared memories and mutual love. Jan's home was a sanctuary where laughter was abundant, and everyone was welcome. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she delighted in preparing meals that brought people together. Her kindness extended beyond her family and friends, as she often volunteered at local shelters and community events, embodying the true spirit of generosity and selflessness. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate the life of Jeanette Lucka, who enriched our lives in countless ways. Her legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering friendship will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light for all who knew her. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. A service to honor Jan’s life will be held on a date forthcoming, where family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate the profound impact she had on all our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity close to Jan's heart, ensuring her spirit of giving lives on. Rest in peace, dear Jan. You will be missed beyond measure, but your love will remain with us always.
