Jean Smith
September 20, 1944 — May 19, 2026
It is with profound sadness but also with cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world on May 19, 2026, at the age of 81. Jean passed away peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family, in Heart's Content, Newfoundland, Canada.
Jean was born on September 20, 1944, in Lancaster, Ohio, to Charles and Helen (Simmerman) Richardson. She was a beacon of light and joy from the moment she entered this world, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. With a personality that embraced warmth and kindness, Jean had a knack for making friends everywhere she went, never meeting a stranger, and possessing a laugh and smile that could light up any room.
Her love for all things yellow was a reflection of her sunny disposition and positive attitude towards life. Jean faced life's challenges with unwavering courage and never gave up, always finding beauty and joy in the simplest of things. Her passion for reading was well known, and she cherished the stories and adventures that books brought into her life.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Helen; her siblings, Judith Finkbone, Marianne Richardson, and Douglas Richardson; as well as her special friends, Kathy Minogue and Jimmy Kyniski, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Their memories remained close to her heart, and she often spoke of them with love and fondness.
Jean's heart was as expansive as her family. She married her devoted husband, David Smith, on February 22, 1992, in Brampton, Ontario, embarking on a journey filled with love, companionship, and shared memories. Jean's love for her family was boundless, and she is survived by her loving husband, David; her children, Stephanie (Mark) Wolf, Steve (Lissette) Reynolds, and Susan (Keith) Bourdin; her step-daughters, Elaine (Albert) Gostick and Sheila (Jason) Gregory; her grandchildren, Ethan (Alexa) Wolf, Emma Wolf, Bryan (Veronica) Brumit, Chase (Denisse) Brumit, Ashley Reynolds, Jordan (Tyler) Grine, Gabriel Reynolds, Sarah Davis, Jacob Baker, Grace Baker, Isabella Bourdin, and Alex Gregory; and four beautiful great-grandchildren who brought her incredible joy.
Jean's family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who provided exceptional care and support to Jean over the past two decades. Their compassion and dedication were a source of comfort to Jean and her family.
In celebration of Jean's remarkable life, a service will be held in Heart's Content, Newfoundland, Canada. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the cancer society of your choice or a dialysis center, in loving memory of Jean.
Jean Smith's legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. She leaves behind a family united by love and cherished memories, and a community enriched by her presence. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
