Jean S Fitzgerald
December 30, 1929 — July 20, 2026
Jean S. Fitzgerald, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 20, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on December 30, 1929, in Somerville, Massachusetts, Jean was a beacon of love, kindness, and resilience throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, Howard and Esther Somerville, her devoted husband, Gerald, and her cherished sons, Marc and Michael. Jean's legacy continues through her surviving daughter, Maureen, her son Matthew, daughter-in-law Jeanna, her four grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Jack, and her great-grandson, Bo. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, Anne Louise, Susan, Cindy, and their families.
Jean was an active member of her community, dedicating her time and talents to numerous causes. She was a steadfast parishioner at St. Mary's in Colts Neck for thirty years and later at St. Rose's in Manahawkin. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church as she actively participated in local politics, Meals-on-Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity, touching countless lives with her selflessness and compassion.
A woman of varied interests, Jean was an avid gardener whose green thumb brought beauty to every space she tended. She was a voracious reader, always eager to learn and explore through the pages of a book. Her love for skiing and dancing filled her life with joy and adventure, while her sweet tooth was a testament to her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Jean also cherished the countless summers spent on Cape Cod, where she found peace and happiness in the company of family and friends.
In her later years, Jean was blessed to be in the care of the compassionate staff at the Jersey Shore Center in Eatontown. Her family is profoundly grateful for the love, laughter, and exceptional care they provided her every day, allowing Jean to live her final years with dignity and grace.
A private funeral service will be held to honor Jean's life, with a small family Memorial Mass planned for late September. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jean's memory to the Alzheimer's Research Association, to continue the fight against the disease that affects so many.
Jean's warmth, generosity, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will endure in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
