October 28, 1941 — April 19, 2026

Jean Gillis, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was 84 years old. Born on October 28, 1941, in Rockland, Massachusetts, Jean was the cherished daughter of Ralph and Eunice Fucillo. Jean's life was filled with love, laughter, and a commitment to health and wellness. She graduated from Rockland High School and pursued further education at Massasoit Community College, where she cultivated her lifelong passion for fitness. With several national certifications under her belt, Jean dedicated decades of her life to being a fitness instructor, co-owning a fitness studio, and later becoming a revered Senior Fitness instructor. Her innovative and tailored exercise programs transformed lives, helping seniors remain active and regain mobility. Jean's charm, humor, and occasionally offbeat music selections never failed to bring joy and laughter to her students, often making them forget the intensity of their workouts. Jean was a faithful Catholic who shared her faith by teaching Catechism classes, enriching the spiritual lives of young ones during their formative years in CCD. Her commitment to her faith was as strong as her dedication to her family and community. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert, her cherished daughter, Virginia, and her dear sister, Mary Ann. Jean is survived by her devoted son, Andrew, who was the light of her life. Her family was the cornerstone of her existence, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Jean had a deep love for the beach and the ocean, where she found peace and tranquility. Her sweet and adorable dogs were her constant companions, bringing her immense joy and comfort throughout her life. Jean's legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and an unwavering zest for life. Her infectious laughter, boundless energy, and compassionate spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we say goodbye to Jean, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, devotion, and an unyielding spirit that touched the hearts of many. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Robert, Virginia, and Mary Ann, finding solace in the arms of the angels. A mass of Christian burial will be held in her honor at St. Mary's Church in Rockland, MA, followed by internment at the local cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Jean's memory to a local animal shelter, in tribute to her love for her four-legged friends.
