Obituary for Jean Francis Lamothe
September 13, 1940 – March 20, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for his life that we announce the passing of Jean Francis Lamothe, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on March 20, 2026, at the age of 85. Jean was surrounded by the love and warmth of his cherished family in Brooklyn, New York, where he had built a life filled with laughter, resilience, and profound love.
Born on September 13, 1940, in the vibrant city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Jean was the cherished son of the late Antoine Lamothe and Odette Solomon. He was raised in a bustling household alongside his siblings, Robert, Marie-Ange, Dady, Florise, Mme Claibert, and Betty, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Though he has now joined his parents and siblings Robert, Marie-Ange, and Dady in eternal rest, the memories of their time together remain a cherished legacy.
In a partnership that spanned over half a century, Jean was the devoted husband of Marie Nerlande. Their marriage of 53 years was a testament to enduring love and commitment, characterized by shared joys and challenges. Together, they raised five exceptional children—Birgitta, Dorothy, Ronald, Jean, and Francesca—instilling in them values of compassion, perseverance, and integrity. Their home, a haven of love, trials, triumphs, and laughter, was the cornerstone of Jean's life and the foundation upon which his family was built.
Jean's heart swelled with pride at the mention of his six grandchildren, who brought an abundance of joy and a special sparkle to his later years. His greatest delight was found in their laughter and the promise of their futures.
Throughout his life, Jean was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his faith. His presence was a steady beacon of warmth and kindness for all who knew him. Jean found fulfillment in simple pleasures, and he possessed a unique ability to find beauty and joy in everyday moments. His gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and infectious smile endeared him to many, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
A service to celebrate Jean's remarkable life will be held at 2200 Clarendon Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11226. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Jean are invited to join us in remembering and honoring him with the love and joy he so generously shared during his time with us.
As we bid farewell to Jean, we take solace in knowing that his legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will endure through those he leaves behind. Though he will be sorely missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before him.
