Jean Frances Waller
February 18, 1939 — May 11, 2026
Jean Frances Waller, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Richmond, Virginia, on May 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 18, 1939, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, Jean was the cherished daughter of Etta and James Jones. From her earliest days, Jean embodied a spirit of warmth and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Jean graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1956, where she cultivated a love for learning and formed lifelong friendships. She went on to marry the love of her life, Mr. Richard Waller Sr., on May 31, 1960, at the very church where she was baptized as a child. Together, they shared 66 years of unwavering love and companionship, creating a legacy of family and faith that will endure for generations.
Jean served as an administrative assistant with Richmond Public Schools at Mary Munford, where her dedication and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on both colleagues and students alike. Her commitment to her community extended beyond her career; she was a devoted deaconess at Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church, where her faith and compassion were ever-present in her service to others.
In addition to her professional and community endeavors, Jean was known for her vibrant personality and myriad talents. She and Richard were avid bowlers, finding joy in the camaraderie and competition of the sport. Jean's love for family was unparalleled, and she treasured every moment spent at gatherings and reunions, where her laughter and love filled the room. Her skills in sewing and gardening were a testament to her creativity and patience, qualities that also defined her relationships with others.
Jean's presence will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Richard Waller Sr.; her son, Richard Waller Jr., and his wife, Trucell; and her beloved grandchild, Richard Waller IV. She leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Joyce, Janet, and Betty, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom were touched by her kindness and wit. Though predeceased by her dear brother and sister, J.D. and Etta Waller, Jean's memory and spirit remain bright in the hearts of her family and friends.
The Waller family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Trucell Waller for her loving care and support during Jean's final days. Her compassion and dedication provided comfort and peace to Jean and the entire family.
Jean's life was a testament to love, faith, and resilience. Her legacy is one of kindness, patience, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. Her family will hold a private ceremony in her honor, celebrating a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished.
In the words of her family, "Jean's light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, guiding us with the love and laughter she so generously shared."
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she gave so freely in life.
