Jean Elizabeth Edmonds
November 8, 1947 — January 8, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jean Elizabeth Edmonds, affectionately known as Jeannie, on January 8, 2026. Born on November 8, 1947, in Portland, Oregon, Jean graced the world with her kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and community for 78 beautiful years. She passed away surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with lupus, an illness she faced with the same strength and grace that characterized her entire life.
Jeannie's life was a testament to love and commitment, both to her family and to her community. She was the cherished wife of Larry Edmonds, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story began on October 20, 1970, and saw them move to Spokane in 1972, where Larry took a position with the Department of Agriculture. What was meant to be a brief stay turned into a lifelong home where they nurtured their family and built a legacy.
Jean and Larry opened their hearts and home to become foster parents in 1974. It was then that Lee and Dave entered their lives, quickly becoming beloved sons. In 1978, they welcomed Annie into their family from birth, completing their circle of love. Jean was an extraordinary mother who managed the family farm with diligence, ensuring it thrived while Larry was at work. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, embracing a wide circle of friends, nieces, nephews, and their children.
A woman of her word, Jeannie was admired for her integrity and determination. She was an active member and chapter president of the Home Makers Club, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed significantly to her community. Her love for antiques was well-known, and she delighted in collecting China tea cups from her travels with Larry, each piece a cherished memory of their adventures together.
Jean's involvement with the Spokane Interstate Fair was a highlight of her life. She and Larry were instrumental in managing the donkey and mule shows, with Jeannie often found in the announcer's booth, her voice a familiar and comforting presence to participants and visitors alike.
Predeceased by her beloved parents, Ron and Peggy Fitzgerald, Jean leaves behind a family who adored her. She is survived by her devoted husband Larry, her children Lee Hitchcock (Shannon), Dave Bonko (Christi), and Annie Edmonds, her sister Sally Miller (Sam), and her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean's love extended to her nieces, nephews, and their families, including Elizabeth (Tom) Devore and Sara (Michael) Edgar.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at South Hill Rehab for their compassionate care during Jean's final weeks. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy.
Jean Elizabeth Edmonds leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and community spirit. Her life was a beacon of hope and kindness, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
