Jean Dunlop
July 7, 1949 — March 18, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Dunlop, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and treasured friend, who departed this world peacefully at home on March 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 7, 1949, in the welcoming town of Claresholm, Jean was the cherished daughter of Glenn and Irene Cannam, who preceded her in death. Her brother, James Cannam, and a close-knit family continue to celebrate her life and legacy.
Jean leaves behind her devoted husband of 55 years, Alvin Dunlop, whom she married on July 11, 1970, in the heart of Claresholm. Their union was a testament to love and resilience, marked by an unwavering partnership that spanned more than half a century. Together, they nurtured three remarkable children: Julia Dunlop, Colleen Nash (Carey), and Mitchell Dunlop (Colleen), all of whom carry forward her spirit and values.
Jean's legacy extends to her seven adored grandchildren—Lauren, Wynter, Keir, Nicolas, Ilse, Anna, and Natalie—each one a testament to her enduring love and dedication to family. Her life was a tapestry woven with the vibrant threads of community service and personal passions.
For 45 years, Jean and Alvin called Westlock, Alberta, their home, where Jean became a cornerstone of the community. Her involvement in the Westlock Daycare, the Westlock Library, and the Westlock Swim Club, as well as her contributions to Swim Alberta and Camp Mackinicholea, demonstrated her unwavering commitment to the betterment of those around her. Her sincere love for genealogy revealed her deep appreciation for history and family legacy, a passion she shared generously with others.
An avid reader, Jean found joy in the pages of books, a pastime that provided solace and wisdom throughout her life. Her kindness and generosity were unparalleled, touching countless lives and leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Healing Hearts Inc., the U of A Hospital, and the Cross Cancer Institute for their compassionate care during Jean's illness. In honor of her memory and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Westlock Intermunicipal Library, a place that held a special place in Jean's heart.
A celebration of Jean's life will be arranged at a later date, offering family and friends the opportunity to gather in remembrance of her extraordinary life. As we reflect on the life of Jean Dunlop, we are reminded of her grace, her boundless love, and the legacy of kindness she leaves behind.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find solace in the memories and the love she shared so freely. Jean's life was a testament to the power of community, the strength of family, and the beauty of a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
