J.B. Powers
April 1, 1936 — July 27, 2026
J.B. Powers (90) went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 27, 2026, after a long illness. Born on April 1, 1936, in Bell County, Kentucky, J.B.'s journey was marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering faith that inspired all who knew him.
J.B. was the son of Leslie and Rosa (Mason) Powers, who predeceased him, along with siblings Verlin and R.L Powers, Lois Powers, Mary Maiden, Charlotte Dargavel and Della Hurst and his beloved children Marcella and Timothy Powers. Despite these losses, J.B.'s life was filled with joy and love, shared for over 71 years with his beloved and loyal wife Ruby Powers, whom he married on a winter's day, December 21, 1954, in Jellico, Tennessee.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion through his surviving family: his wife Ruby, his children Annette Fortener and her husband Ron, Curt Powers, and Kimberly Haynes. He was also blessed with 6 grandchildren. Christie Gates, Brandon, Jordan and Joseph Powers, Lindsay Roth and Cody Huffman. He is also survived with 14 great-grandchildren. Leigha, Gabrielle and Jacqueline Gates, Whitney, Mason, Charley, Henry, Erika, Jayclyn, Emerson, Uriah Powers, Chloe' Richard and Ava and Mia Graber.
J.B. worked at Aerovent Fan, Inc. in Piqua, Ohio from where he eventually retired. However, his true vocation was found in his love for others and his faith, as a member of Sidney Baptist Church, where he was ordained in 1964.
A man of simple pleasures, J.B. found joy in walking several miles each day, attending garage sales, and sharing a good clean joke. His sense of humor and friendliness brought smiles to many faces, and his teasing nature made everyone feel special. J.B. was a genuine people person, whose love for his family, especially his grandchildren, was boundless and unconditional.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Obed for his dedicated care over the years and to the compassionate hospice nurses who provided comfort and support during J.B.'s final days.
A service to honor and celebrate J.B.'s life will be held on July 31, 2026, at Cromes Funeral Home in Sidney, Ohio. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life was a testament to love, laughter, and faith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in J.B.'s memory to support the organizations and causes that were dear to his heart. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
