Jayne S. Woodward

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Jayne S. Woodward on July 30, 2026, at the age of 73. Jayne was born on October 6, 1952, in Edgefield, South Carolina, to the late Albert Marvin Self and Earline Hammond Self. Her journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community. A proud graduate of North Augusta High School, class of 1970, Jayne pursued higher education with zeal and distinction. She earned a B.S. degree in Business Education from the University of South Carolina in 1974, achieving the highest GPA in her class and receiving recognition from the National Business Education Association. Her academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career as an International Trade Specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce, where she dedicated 34 years to helping U.S. companies expand their horizons. Jayne's work took her across the globe, leading trade missions to countries including Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Chile, and China. On April 26, 1975, Jayne married her beloved husband, Steven Plunkett Woodward, embarking on a partnership rooted in love and mutual respect. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Steven Brad Woodward (Kristy) and Todd Garrett Woodward (Kim), who were the light of her life. Jayne was a devoted grandmother to Ava and Emmy Woodward, Alex Woodward, and cherished step-grandmother to Lily Margaret O'Leary, Eleanor O'Leary, and Bradley O'Leary. Her family was her pride and joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Jayne's commitment to her community was evident through her active involvement in McGregor Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for many years. Her faith guided her as she served as a deacon, an elder, and the Clerk of Session. She was instrumental in organizing community workshops, sharing her knowledge and passion with those around her. Her sister, Beth Francis (Odus), survives her and shares in the cherished memories of Jayne's vibrant life. In retirement, Jayne discovered a new passion for tennis, playing as both a captain and team member in numerous league teams. In 2010, she had the honor of competing at the USTA Nationals in Indian Wells, California, a testament to her dedication and love for the sport. However, nothing brought her more joy than the time spent with her grandchildren, who were the center of her universe. A service to celebrate Jayne's life will be held at McGregor Presbyterian Church, located at 6505 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the indelible mark she left on this world. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jayne's memory to McGregor Presbyterian Church, to continue the work and community service she held dear. Jayne S. Woodward's legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
