Essie Juanita Simmons, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully on July 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Born on September 16, 1941, in the quaint town of Bogota, Texas, Jaunita was a beacon of love and light to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and resilience, values instilled in her by her parents, the late Eugene and Alma Roberta Hill. Juanita grew up alongside her siblings and best friend Ruth Oneal, creating cherished memories that she carried with her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Joey Dale Simmons, her daughters Tammy Meddock and Pamela Lamb, granddaughter Angela Brister, grandson Joshua Laplant, sisters Mary Thompson, Anita Taylor, Louise Marks, and her brother Henry Duane Hill. Each of these losses was met with her characteristic grace and strength. On May 26, 1958, Juanita married the love of her life, Joey Dale Simmons. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared many happy years until his passing. Jaunita's legacy continues through her surviving daughter, Sherrie Freeman, and her cherished grandchildren: Benjamin Brister, Jason Laplant, Craig Davidson, Sarah Savage, Shelby Freeman, and Shaylee Freeman. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Mikaela Stover, Makenzie Sanford, Madison Brister, Kailyn Godwin, Lena Laplant, Sawyer Savage, and Jackson Savage, and her great-great-grandson, Liam Stover. Each of these family members held a special place in Jaunita's heart, and she was immensely proud of them all. An artist at heart, Juanita found joy in painting, crafting, and creating beautiful floral arrangements. Her home was often filled with the vibrant colors of her creations, each piece a reflection of her gentle spirit and creative soul. Beyond her artistic talents, Jaunita was known for her unwavering faith and her deep love for Jesus, which guided her in all she did. Her sweet spirit endeared her to everyone she met, and she was known for her ability to make others feel loved and valued. Juanita's warmth and generosity were unmatched, and her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her welcoming smile and kind words. A service to honor and celebrate Jaunita's remarkable life will be held on July 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Jeter & Son Funeral Home, located at 4830 West Illinois Ave., Dallas, Texas 75211. Friends and family are invited to gather and share in the remembrance of a truly beautiful soul. Though she has left this world, Juanita's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness is a gift that will be treasured by her family and friends for generations to come.
