Jason Elmer Murray
March 11, 1944 — May 25, 2026
Jason Elmer Murray, a beloved pillar of the Murray community, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, in the park he cherished deeply. Born on March 11, 1944, in the quaint town of Murray, JF, Jason lived a life marked by unwavering dedication to his family, community, and the values he held dear.
Jason was the beloved son of Reginald and Rose Murray, who instilled in him the virtues of hard work and integrity. He graduated from Murray High School in 1963, before pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering at Murray Tech, where he graduated in 1968. That same year, Jason began his career as a mechanical engineer with the City of Murray Water Department, a role he embraced until 1984.
His career took a pivotal turn when he was elected as mayor of Murray in 1984, a position he held with pride and distinction until his retirement in 2024 at the age of 80. During his 40-year tenure, Jason was instrumental in transforming the city he so loved. He was known for his diligence and determination in cleaning up corruption within the Murray tax office, a feat that earned him the unwavering respect and admiration of the community. His visionary leadership led to the creation of the Murray Bureau of Tourism and the Murray Midtown Restoration Project, both of which played significant roles in revitalizing the city's economy and cultural heritage.
Perhaps his most cherished accomplishment as mayor was the creation of the river recreation area, now fondly known as Murray Park. This park, a sanctuary of tranquility and natural beauty, became a personal haven for Jason, where he would often be found lost in reverie, savoring the simple joys of nature.
In addition to his professional achievements, Jason was a dedicated member of the Murray Community Church for 63 years and an active participant in the Murray Rotary Club for 56 years, serving as its president from 1999 to 2001. His commitment to these organizations reflected his deep-seated belief in service to others and his unwavering dedication to his community.
In his personal life, Jason was devoted to his late wife, Louise Murray, whom he married on July 6, 1947. Together, they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and companionship until her passing. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Raven Murray, who was the light of his life and the proud legacy of a man who gave so much to so many. Though he leaves behind no grandchildren, his impact on the lives he touched is immeasurable.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Jason's life, respecting his wishes for an intimate farewell surrounded by those he held dear. As we bid goodbye to Jason Elmer Murray, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man whose legacy will forever be etched in the heart of Murray. His contributions will continue to inspire future generations, reminding us all of the profound difference one life, dedicated to service and love, can make.
