Jarrett K. Hairston

October 10, 1983 — August 20, 2026

Jarrett Kyle Hairston, beloved son, brother, uncle, family member, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at the age of 42. Born on October 10, 1983, Jarrett was the third and youngest child of James and Veronica Hairston. Jarrett was a bright, outgoing, and deeply personable man whose intelligence, humor, and genuine desire to help others left a positive and indelible impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a warm and friendly spirit, a quick sense of humor, and a remarkable ability to connect with people. Jarrett was the kind of person who could make you laugh, often when you least expected it. His intelligence was evident at an incredibly young age. Jarrett taught himself how to read by the age of three and even wanted to teach his dyslexic brother how to read. His parents were understandably amazed when an evaluation by his doctor confirmed what they could hardly believe: Jarrett really could read. Jarrett was known for his outgoing personality, infectious humor, and willingness to be there for others. Beneath his humor was a deeply caring person who genuinely wanted to help the people who crossed his path. Education was an important part of Jarrett’s life. He loved learning, but just as importantly, he loved sharing what he knew. He enjoyed sharing his skills, knowledge, and techniques with others and had a genuine desire to help people grow. Jarrett will be remembered for his intelligence, humor, generosity, friendliness, independence, and extraordinary ability to make people laugh. He cared deeply about others and brought his own unique energy, personality, and enlightenment into the lives of those around him. Jarrett was preceded in death by his beloved older brother, Jayson Hairston. He was a beloved uncle to his two nieces, Brianna and Aaliyah Hairston, and shared a special bond with his nephew, Luca Osei. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, James and Veronica Hairston; his older sister, Javi Osei; and his aunts, Laverne Blackwell; Dr. Jacqueline Blackwell Leonard (Jack); Robert Hairston (Willie Mae); Linda Green (Bobby); and Iva Jean Green. He also leaves two very close cousins, Shelly Stone and Travis Bennett, along with a host of cousins, extended family members, friends, former students, colleagues, and countless others whose lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
