Janice Siegel

Janice Siegel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by love and care in a beautiful hospice. Born on September 15, 1948, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jan lived a life full of love, dedication, and kindness, touching the hearts of everyone she met. Jan was the cherished daughter of Kenneth and Francis McKenzie and grew up alongside her siblings, Ken, Jack, Richard McKenzie, and Donna Cronin. She graduated from Attleboro High School in 1966 and continued her education at Salem State College, where she earned a degree in education in 1969. Jan's passion for teaching led her to further her studies, obtaining two master's degrees from the University of Bridgeport with specializations in education and math. In 1975, Jan met the love of her life, Paul Siegel, and the two were married in 1977. Together, they built a family rooted in love and warmth, raising two sons, Matthew and Daniel Siegel, and celebrating the arrival of their treasured grandson, Donovan Siegel. Jan and Paul shared over 51 beautiful years together. Jan devoted 33 years to the Ridgefield school system, where she was a guiding light for countless young minds. She taught grades 1 through 3 from 1969 to 1985, and after a 12-year hiatus to focus on raising her sons, she returned to the classroom to inspire kindergarteners at Veterans Park School from 1997 to 2012. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom as she served as the Math/Science Coordinator from 1983 to 1985. Beyond her professional life, Jan was an active member of the First Congregational Church for 41 years, where she also led hospitality for over a decade. She was a dedicated member of the Caudatowa Garden Club, nurturing her passion for gardening both in the community and at her home on Peaceable Ridge. Jan's culinary skills were legendary, and her Christmas cookies brought joy to many. She found peace and strength in yoga and Pilates, and her adventurous spirit led her to walk the historic El Camino in Spain and attend a yoga retreat in India. Jan will be remembered for her kindness, her nonjudgmental nature, and her ability to see the good in everyone. Her warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her. A service to celebrate Jan's life will be held on September 19, 2026, at First Congregational Church, located at 108 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT 06877. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association in memory of Jan's commitment to education and her nurturing spirit. The Siegel family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Regional Hospice for the gentle, compassionate care Jan received in her final weeks. Their support made all the difference during this tender time. Janice Siegel's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
