Janice Prosek

June 7, 1967 — November 8, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Janice Prosek, who left this world on November 8, 2025, at the age of 58, under circumstances befitting her unique spirit. Born in the vibrant city of Chicago on June 7, 1967, Janice was the beloved daughter of John and Julissa Smith. Her untimely departure has left a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew her. Janice's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and complexity. She was a woman of many dimensions, known for her loud and spirited demeanor that could fill any room with energy. Her laughter was infectious, her wit was sharp, and her presence was undeniably memorable. Those who encountered her were often drawn to her unapologetic authenticity and larger-than-life personality. A scholar at heart, Janice graduated from the esteemed halls of Harvard, an achievement that spoke to her determination and intellect. However, it was her long-standing career at Dairy Queen that brought her immense joy and satisfaction. Over 34 years, she became a cherished member of her work family, serving her community with dedication and a smile. Janice's love life was as colorful as her personality—a testament to her belief in love's transformative power. Married four times, all to men named Greg, her journey was anything but ordinary. She even briefly found herself engaged to a magician, who, true to his craft, disappeared emotionally before her very eyes. Her third husband crossed paths with her at a Chili’s, a chance meeting during a custody exchange that blossomed into a chapter of her life. Her podcast, "Love Is Complicated But So Am I," captured her perspectives on relationships, offering wisdom and humor to listeners around the world. Though legally married once, Janice celebrated love in myriad ways, counting six additional spiritual unions. Her heart was vast, her love abundant, and her spirit unbounded. Janice's life was not without its challenges, but she faced each with resilience and a touch of humor. Her love for gambling was well-known, and she approached every game with the same zest she brought to life. It was this passion for living boldly that endeared her to so many. Janice is survived by her son, Parker Prosek, who carries forward her legacy of embracing life with a full heart. In her own words, Parker may be "basically an idiot," but he was her greatest joy and the light of her life. As we bid farewell to Janice, we remember a woman who lived fiercely and loved deeply, a woman who left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her departure from this world, as mysterious as it was, embodies the enigmatic nature of her life—a reminder that she was truly one of a kind. Rest in peace, dear Janice. Your spirit will continue to inspire us, and your laughter will echo in our hearts forever. A private service will be held for family and close friends to honor Janice's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, in memory of Janice's generous spirit.
