September 11, 1947 — May 13, 2026

It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Janice Marie Bailey (née Jones) on May 13, 2026, at her cherished home in Newark, NJ. Born on September 11, 1947, Janice graced this world with her quick wit, warm smile, and an unwavering spirit that brightened the lives of everyone she met. Janice was the cherished daughter of the late Moses and Alberta Jones. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Issac Bailey, and her dear siblings, Bessie Mae Jones, Lula Ree Jones, and Moses Jones Jr. Despite these profound losses, Janice's resilience and strength were ever-present, providing an unwavering foundation for her family. On April 20, 1974, Janice married the love of her life, Mark Bailey. Over 52 years of marriage, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising four children together: Pearlie Bailey-Walden (Randy), Zora Bailey (Lamont), and Alonzo Bailey. Janice’s legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren—Ashley, Tonya, Lekenyah, Jarvis, Alonzo Jr., and Zamora—and her nine great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Frances Jones and Robert Jones, and her close family friend, Zaneta Thurman. In her professional life, Janice was a dedicated Certified Professional Midwife, a calling through which she helped deliver over 50 babies, touching each family with her kindness and expertise. Her commitment to the wellbeing of others was a hallmark of her character, extending beyond her career to her community involvement. Janice was an active member of Grace Temple for 29 years, where she found joy in fellowship with her special group of friends, the "Coffee Girls," eagerly anticipating Sundays to gather and share laughter and faith. Janice’s life was a testament to kindness and generosity. Her quick wit could lighten any room, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued was a gift that will be deeply missed. Her humor and warmth were a balm to many, and her legacy of love and compassion will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. A service to celebrate Janice’s extraordinary life will be held on May 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church, located at 149 Springfield Ave., Newark, NJ 07103. We invite all who knew and loved Janice to join us in honoring her memory and celebrating the impact she had on our lives. In closing, the family wishes to share a special message: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." Janice will forever be felt in our hearts, her spirit a constant reminder of the beauty she brought into our world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Janice’s memory, continuing her legacy of kindness and generosity. Janice Marie Bailey’s light will live on in the love she shared and the lives she touched.
