With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Janice Lee Comly, who departed this world on June 10, 2026, at the age of 82. Enveloped in the warmth and love of her family, Janice left us at her home, a place imbued with countless cherished memories, in Franklin, Texas.
Born on July 8, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Martin Van Collar and Kathryn C. Swope, Janice's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Francis Comly, her father Martin, and her mother Kathryn. Her spirit, however, lives on through her daughter Tina Craver and her partner John Fernandez, her sons David Wilson and his wife Lisa, and Martin Comly. Janice's legacy of love also extends to her siblings: Richard Swope and his wife Ann, Jenny Gruber, Carol Weise and her husband Bob, Marion Kessler, and Frank Swope and his wife Rebecca. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Janice's journey of love and commitment began when she graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon, PA. Following her passion for beauty and care, she attended beauty school and became a skilled beautician. Her career began at Rose Swanson Beauty Shop in Philadelphia, where she worked for 15 years, before moving to Texas in 1980 with her children and her soon-to-be husband, Francis, affectionately known as "Franny." In Texas, she found her calling at the Franklin Nursing Home, where she served as an aide and beautician, bringing comfort and joy to her patients. Her professional journey culminated with a decade-long tenure at the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation, where she retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and kindness.
Janice's commitment to her community was evident in her active participation in several organizations, including the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Aggie Bombers, Texas Self Advocate, and The ARC of Brazos Valley. She was affectionately known as the "Terminator" for her enthusiastic involvement in the Special Olympics.
A woman of faith and warmth, Janice found solace in church, her Bible, and the soothing rhythms of the ocean waves at her favorite beaches. She enjoyed the thrill of Lifetime movies, the intellectual challenge of Wheel of Fortune, the dramatic flair of Young and the Restless, and the intriguing mysteries of crime shows. A lifelong fan of Johnny Mathis, she cherished the memory of seeing him perform live at WinStar. Her admiration for Chuck Norris, her favorite actor, was well known to friends and family.
Janice was a beacon of love, bravery, and strength, effortlessly going with the flow of life with an easy-going demeanor that endeared her to all who knew her. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she found immense joy in spending time with them, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
