Janet Louise Bishop

Janet Louise Bishop, 64, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with illness. Born on October 13, 1961, in Alexandria, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Bishop and Margaret Lyle Bishop. Janet's life was a testament to resilience, love, and devotion. She was the rock of her family, a source of unwavering support and strength for those she loved. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met, and her ability to create a nurturing and loving environment for her family was unparalleled. Janet particularly cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, finding immense joy in their company, especially with young Levi, who held a special place in her heart. For over 25 years, Janet was a self-employed house cleaner and was highly respected in her field. Her dedication to her clients and her meticulous care for their homes made her sought after and appreciated by all who knew her. Beyond her professional life, her true fulfillment came from spending time with her children and grandchildren, weaving memories that will be treasured forever. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Thomas Wesley Gibson, her sisters Linda Gibson Davis and LaVerne Addington, and her son Ricky Bishop. She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her legacy: her children Melissa Bishop and her husband Bruce, Amanda Bishop, and Aaron Bishop; her grandchildren John Jon, Ricky, and Leah Bishop, Levi and Mandalyn Lewin, and Kingston Bishop. Janet is also survived by her siblings, Charles Edward “Butch” Gibson and his wife Peggy, Cecil Allen Gibson and his wife Denise, Norma Lee Houchens, Calvin Blaine Bishop and his wife Rose Lea, Cathy Ann Faulk, and Marian Fay Bishop as well as many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Janet's remarkable life will be held on September 24th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Teague Funeral Home Chapel, located at 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. Following the service, interment will take place at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
