In Loving Memory

Janet Sawyer
June 8, 1941 — March 2, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Janet (Stisser) Sawyer, who left this world on March 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her cherished family after a brief illness. Janet was born on June 8, 1941, in Cortland, NY, to the late Wesley and Lydia Stisser. She was the youngest of six children, predeceased by her brothers John, Richard, and Wesley, as well as her sisters Dorothy Corser and Barbara Osadchey.
Janet had an enriched life with her loving husband of 65 years, Thomas Sawyer, by her side. Together, they shared a beautiful journey that began on October 29, 1960, when they exchanged vows at the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland, NY. Their union was blessed with three children: sons Jefferey, married to Christa, and Mark, married to Azreena, and daughter Carol Ann, married to Tom Perry. Janet’s legacy continues through her six adored grandchildren: Mallory, Maxx, Shafiqa, Kaden, Nathan, and Zachary, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
She was a graduate of Cortland High School, Class of 1959. She was involved in the vibrant community of Twin Palms in Lakeland, FL, where she and Thomas made their home for many years. Janet was a beloved figure, known for her kindness with which she engaged with everyone she met. Her passion for swimming was matched only by her love for conversation, as she found joy in connecting with others and forming lasting friendships.
In keeping with Janet’s wishes, a celebration of her life will be held in Cortland at a later date, where family will gather to honor her life.
Her family invites you to remember her with warmth and joy, as she would have wished.
