It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Marie Abrams (McNeely), who departed this world peacefully on April 24, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 18, 1947, in the quaint town of Westfield, Massachusetts, Janet graced the world with her presence for 78 years, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength. Janet was a beacon of warmth and compassion, qualities that were evident in every role she embraced in life. A devoted wife, Janet shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Douglas L. McNeely, who predeceased her. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, a union that inspired all who knew them. As a mother, Janet's love knew no bounds. Her daughter, Meagan Starr, brought immense joy into her life. Janet cherished the moments spent with Meagan and her husband, Benjamin, and their son, Aiden, in Torrington, Connecticut. Her nurturing spirit and gentle guidance shaped a family rooted in love and shared values. Janet's family extended beyond her biological ties. She embraced her stepchildren with open arms, offering them the same love and support she gave to all. She is fondly remembered by Craig McNeely and his wife, Tracy, and their son, Keegan of Brookfield, Massachusetts; Nancy Cataldo, her husband Lou, and their daughters, Celia and Talia of Barnstable, Massachusetts; Mark McNeely of Brookfield, Massachusetts; and Kirsten Iozzo, her husband Brian, and their children Jeff, Davis, and Jordan of Southbridge, Massachusetts. As a grandmother to seven wonderful grandchildren, Janet’s home was often filled with laughter and joy. Her grandchildren will forever hold dear the memories of her warm hugs, wise words, and the comforting presence that only a grandmother can provide. Throughout her life, Janet exemplified grace and resilience, touching the lives of many with her generous spirit and unwavering faith. Her journey was marked by a deep appreciation for family, and she treasured every moment spent in the company of those she loved. Janet's kindness extended beyond her family, as she was known in her community for her volunteer work and dedication to helping those in need. Her legacy of compassion and selflessness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived. Janet Marie Abrams (McNeely) leaves behind a tapestry of love and memories that will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. A private family service will be held to honor Janet’s life, in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cancer charity of one's choice, in tribute to Janet's courageous fight. Janet will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as her legacy continues to shine brightly in the lives she touched.
