It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved Janet Lanning, who departed this world peacefully at the age of 93 on May 12, 2026, at Charter Senior Living in White House, TN. Janet's life, spanning over nine decades, was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Janet was born on October 9, 1932, in the quaint town of Shackle Island, Tennessee, to Luther and Ruth O'Saile. Her early years in Shackle Island were marked by a strong sense of family and community, values she carried with her throughout her life. Janet was a proud alumna of Hendersonville High School, where she formed lasting friendships and laid the foundation for her future endeavors.
On May 20, 1950, Janet married the love of her life, Earl Lanning. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising five children in a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Janet's dedication to her family was unparalleled, and her nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Her husband, Earl, predeceased her, along with her brother, Doug O'Saile; sister, Judy Avant; her beloved mother, Ruth Milstid; and her caring step-father, Tom Milstid.
Janet is survived by her cherished children: Dee Kilgore (Danny), Rick Lanning (Benita), Ron Lanning (Marianne), Rebecca Flynn (James), and Renita Harber (Norman). Her legacy continues through her 15 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of Janet's spirit and values. Her love and wisdom have been passed down through generations, ensuring that her influence will be felt for many years to come.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Charter Senior Living for their compassionate care and unwavering support during Janet's final months. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort to both Janet and her family during this difficult time.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held on May 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Hendersonville Funeral Home, located at 353 West Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Janet's remarkable life, sharing stories and memories that will forever keep her spirit alive.
