With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Hudson Ruth on July 1, 2026, at the age of 57, surrounded by the warmth of her home in New Bern, North Carolina. Born on May 16, 1969, in New Bern, Janet was a beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Minnie Hudson, cherished sister to the late Barbara Hudson, and a devoted mother who now joins her beloved daughter, Ebony Ruth, in eternal peace.
Janet's journey began in the vibrant community of New Bern, where she grew up surrounded by love and warmth. She graduated from New Bern High School in 1987, carrying forward her aspirations to Key Business College in Norfolk, Virginia, where she earned an Associate Degree in 1989. Her academic achievements laid the foundation for a life dedicated to compassion, service, and community.
On June 15, 1992, Janet married her soulmate, Timothy Ruth, with whom she shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, nurturing their son, Timothy Ruth II, who brought immense joy to their lives. Janet was a pillar of strength and inspiration to her family, including her loving sisters Sandra Sampson, Robin Hautman, Jacqueline Jackson, Vanessa Hopkins, and Shelia Ward, and a treasured aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A devout member of the Wesley Covenant Church of New Bern, Janet's faith was her guiding light. She dedicated countless hours to her church community, where her warm spirit and open heart touched the lives of many. Janet's love for God and her family was evident in every aspect of her life, as she freely shared her kindness and generosity with all who crossed her path.
Janet had a unique gift for making every day special, infusing her artistic flair into simple moments and creating cherished memories through her love of cooking and baking. Her home was always filled with the comforting aroma of her culinary creations, a testament to the love she poured into every meal. Janet never met a stranger, finding joy in conversation and connection, and her legacy of kindness and empathy will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Though Janet did not have grandchildren or great-grandchildren, her legacy of love and warmth continues to resonate through her family and friends. She now rests alongside her parents, Thomas and Minnie Hudson, her sister Barbara, and her daughter Ebony, in the eternal embrace of peace.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Wesley Covenant Church, located at 4143 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, New Bern, North Carolina 28562. Family, friends, and all whose lives Janet touched are invited to join us in honoring her remarkable journey and the profound impact she made on the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Janet's memory to a charity close to her heart, ensuring her spirit of generosity and love continues to make a difference.
