Janet Eckert Johansen
May 18, 1933 — October 26, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Eckert Johansen on October 26, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on May 18, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, Jan lived a life full of love, warmth, and selfless dedication to her family and community.
Jan was the cherished daughter of Conrad and Isabel, who preceded her in death, along with her beloved sister Joyce, her son David, and her devoted husband, Don. Jan and Don shared a remarkable marriage that spanned 68 years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment to each other.
Jan's legacy is carried on by her daughter Laura, and her husband John, her son Cris, and his wife Jane, and her daughter-in-law Susan. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was the heart and soul of their gatherings. She was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, who adored her, and a great-grandmother to ten, who will grow up hearing countless stories of her kindness and grace.
Jan was known for her class, her innate creativity and her knack for making everyone feel welcome. Her talent for sewing was unmatched; she could recreate any design she saw in a magazine with skill and artistry. She had a gift for hosting, whether it was a baby shower, bridal shower, or a simple family meal, always adorned with fresh-cut flowers. Jan found great joy in serving others, often serving quietly in the background to ensure everyone felt welcomed and loved.
As a mother, Jan was the epitome of unconditional love. She was always available, constantly cheering on her children and grandchildren, offering support and encouragement in every endeavor they pursued.
A service to celebrate Jan’s life will be held on November 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, located at 500 Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the remarkable woman who touched so many lives with her kindness and generosity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Glen Ellyn, IL, in memory of Jan's lifelong dedication to her faith and community.
Jan's fun spirit and boundless love will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
